Light

March 29, 2020

Today would have been the eleventh birthday of our beautiful greyhound. She was a rescue from the tracks of Alabama, raced under the name of ‘RLM’s Blacklight’, and hence her given name was ‘Light’. She left us on December 21st and the sudden loss was heartbreaking. She was sweet and loving; a powerful example of strength and resilience; and very much an inspiration in this cheese shop. ( See blog ‘what is in a name’).

I am still drawn to tears during some moments of reflection. But I am also thankful and grateful for having shared and learned from Light. Today, a quiet and sombre day of covid-19 precautions, I have been thinking of her name in a more philosophical sense. Some special quotes come to my mind:

“We are not here to curse the darkness, but to light the candle that can guide us through that darkness to a safe and sane future.” – John F. Kennedy

“Nothing can dim the light that shines from within.” – Maya Angelou

“Let light shine out of darkness.” – II Corinthians 4:6
