In one of my recent fill-in-the-time internet ramblings, I came across a series of video clips provided by Arnold Schwarzenegger. These were starring not just the Terminator himself, but featuring his donkey (Lulu) and miniature pony (Whiskey). Both are now youtube sensations. And frankly, Lulu is just hilarious. In one clip, Arnold sings ‘Happy Birthday’ to her as she very enthusiastically devours her birthday cake. In another, Lulu and Whiskey share a pasta dish with Arnold… each delightfully getting one basil leaf.

While this is quite the luxurious life for equine friends, it made me wonder how this “new world” we face has impacted life at Primrose Donkey Sanctuary and the Donkey Sanctuary of Canada.

We support both of these groups by matching customer donations and dividing between the two. (After all, donkeys are responsible for the world’s most famous (and expensive) cheese). Both sanctuaries highly depend on visitation and donations from the public, and with the covid-19 closures, things have been tough. The animals need ongoing food, vet care, supervision, etc. Without the usual flow of visitors to their facility, the need for support is more urgent and upfront than ever.

But wait!!!...there’s now “Curbside Donkey Visits” at Primrose!!; and the Donkey Sanctuary of Canada offers “Virtual Open Days” accessible from their website ‘Events’ tab!! What a fantastic way to ease the stress of the recent weeks! I know for sure that the sweet donkeys will have you laughing and smiling in no time. So drive-up or sign-in and have fun!!
