Amedei is a name synonymous with the world’s finest chocolate. The company was started in 1990 by Cecilia Tessieri in Pontedera, Tuscany, and it thrives on the belief that quality is founded on discipline, knowledge, and respect. This is manifest in the pureness of ingredients…. cocoa, cane sugar, the best milk (no additives, nothing artificial), and in the production…. traditional methods and antique machinery coming together by hand.

The cornerstone of the Amedei collection is the ‘I Fondamentali’ and the ‘Cru’ selections. All these bars are a breathtaking encounter of pure excellence wrapped in and innovative wallet-style packaging. The Cru line, like vintage wine or farmstead cheese, are from specific-origin cocoa plantations and, as such, they express the unique terroir of birth. There is also the ‘I Frutti’ line to offer a fusion of flavours including pistachios, peaches and apricots, etc.

One of the most famous of all the selections is the Amedei piece de resistance,  ‘Porcelana’.

It is also known as the world’s most expensive and most desired chocolate. The cocoa beans used are exclusively pure Criollo (with pre-Columbian heritage), translucent and porcelain-like in appearance, and sourced exclusively from one small remote plantation in the Chuao region of Venezuela. For the trivia fans, it can be noted that Amedei Porcelana chocolate is one of the key ingredients in the famed “Golden Opulence” sundae featured at the Serendipity 3 restaurant in New York City. Priced at $1000.00 US this ranks in the Guinness World Book of Records as the world’s most expensive dessert.

At La Jolie Cheese Shop, we are very excited to now carry a selection of Amedei. We hope that you will be as intrigued as we are to pair this exquisite chocolate with cheese, or simply sit back and discover the perfection of Amedei. As their mission states…..nothing less, always more, beyond compare.
