Hillary House

September 28, 2016

When La Jolie first opened in Aurora, we were delighted to become ‘new neighbours’ to the National Historic Site, Hillary House. Located just a block away from us, the lovely brick house at 15372 Yonge Street is one of Canada’s best examples of Gothic Revival architecture. Under it’s roof is contained significant collections of personal possessions of three generations of medical doctors who lived and raised families and called this lovely abode ‘home’. As such, Hillary House stands potential among the foremost historic house museums in North America.

It is a joy to drive by Hillary House each morning on route to the shop. Some days my mind wanders to times of old and for a moment, I imagine the comings and goings, the horse drawn carriages, and the flowing dresses. At night on return, I do believe I almost see the flickering candles in the windows.

How lucky we are to have this tangible glimpse into the past so close at hand. I urge you to drop by and be refreshed and transported to Aurora of old!
