Riopelle

This cheese is made on Isle aux Grues, Quebec – home also to the famous Ile aux Grues cheddar.  It is an exquisite triple cream, bloomy rind cheese made from unpasturized cow’s milk.  The flavour is butter and mushroom and cream.  It is named for the painter Jean Paul Riopelle who lived on the island in the vicinity of the fromagerie.

How to Enjoy:

Lovely with fresh baguette; wonderful teamed with roasted asparagus or grilled artichoke hearts.  A sparkling wine complements beautifully, as does an off-dry Reisling.
